Last week's snow craze....

After spending 50 hours stuck in town apart from my family because of the snow storm that swept in this is the biggest snow man I could make with the girls once home! :)

Big lesson learned during the storm: because God is with us we can do hard things when we have too.

Adoption update & news ....

Well, Our home study has now been completed for almost 3 weeks which was a huge celebration having completed all the requirements and paperwork. However, due to some of the info we have received about the changes going on in the Ethiopian program we decided to put a temporary hold on actually sending it to the US Imigration as we seek clarity from God. We were pushing so hard to complete the home study and get it sent off to start phase two that this last month has actually been quite difficult on us as we feel we must wait upon The Lord for confirmation we are in the right program and yet are anxious not to waste a minute of time since the process seems to be getting longer. We would appreciate your prayers for wisdom and patience during this time. We have been in communication with our agency and case workers and hope to make a decision by the end of this month (should that be God's Will).

On another note....while we are on the long journey of waiting for God to bring home our "baby that is growing in our hearts" (as the girls say)! God has so graciously blessed us with another addition a "baby that is growing in my belly" :) Due August 4th we are now 12.5 weeks along and all doctors seem to think we are both strong and healthy, Glory to God alone for His miraculous and sovereign work in our lives. Please join us in praying for continued growth and health for this precious one!!

Core values for Christian Adoption

God’s Heart and Ours. God is vested, deeply and personally, in the plight of the orphan—and in all who are destitute and defenseless (Dt 10:18; Ps 10:14; Ps 68:5-6, Is 58:5-12).  He calls His people to join Him in this, sharing His passion for orphans and bringing to each child the love of Jesus Christ in both word and deed (Is 1:17; Jms 1:27; Mt 25:40).

Responsive Love. To act upon God’s call to care for orphans is not merely a matter of duty or reaction to need.  It is first a response to Gospel:  the loving Father who sought us, adopted us, and invites us to live as His sons and daughters (1 Jn 4:19; Eph 1:15; Gal 4:6).

Commitment to the Whole Child. To meet only spiritual or only physical needs of an orphan is incomplete (1 Jn 3:17; Jms 2:16; Mk 8:36).  Christian love seeks to address both.  Even a cup of water given to quench the momentary thirst of a child is of eternal value (Mt 10:42). Yet of surpassing greatness is to know Jesus as Lord (Phil 3:8).  So, just as in the ministry of Jesus, we should always hold together the meeting of physical need with the Gospel and our hope that every child will know God’s love deeply and personally.

Priority of Family. God created the family as the ideal environment for every child, and the best outcome for an orphan is to know the love of a permanent family.   Given the vast and complex needs facing orphans worldwide, this is not always possible.  However, priority should always be placed on family-based solutions, and any long-term care should be as permanent, nurturing and close to family as is feasible for the particular situation.

Role of Residential Care. Crisis situations sometimes demand residential care for children, including orphanages and foster care group homes.  To the fullest extent possible, however, residential care should be viewed as short-term and transitional.  In general, the goal for each orphaned child should be to seek a solution as far as feasible along a “continuum” toward permanent family:  large group homes, small group homes, foster care, kinship care, and, ultimately, full adoption whenever willing families can be found.

Family Preservation. Whenever possible, children classified as “orphans” that have one surviving parent or other relatives should be helped to remain with family members.   Efforts that enable families to stay together and prevent children from ending up in orphanages or on the streets are a vital part of response to the global orphan crisis.

Central Role of Local Church. The local church in every nation possesses both the Christian mandate and many other resources needed to care for the world’s orphans in a nurturing, family-based environment.   Every initiative to care for orphans should prioritize and honor the role of the local church, carefully pairing what foreign resources may be necessary with local believers willing to open their hearts and homes to orphans in their community.

Rumors of Ethiopia Closing International Adoption

Rumors are circulating regarding Ethiopia potentially closing its international adoption program in early January (http://allafrica.com/stories/201312260586.html). West Sands adoption agency, an affiliate of our agency, wrote the article below in response to all of these rumors. This article offers some encouragement, but we do know leaders are actively meeting in order to make changes to the orphan care process. Please pray for the leaders in Ethiopia to make decisions that will be best for helping the many, many orphans find forever families. http://www.westsandsadoption.org/ws/rumors-of-ethiopia-adoption-program-closure/

Sweet reminders....

" For He is the living God and He endure forever His kingdom will not be destroyed, His dominion will never end." - Daniel 6:26-27
Above, a leaf our girls found in the yard, so small it could have easily have been over looked and yet God had it catch our eyes. We awed over the intricate heart clearly punched in it. All this coming on a day when we needed a little reminder of God's great love and His sovereignty in all things. His provision over our day to day lives here......and even more so all the unknowns that we struggle to pray over and through for our soon to be child(ren). It was through this simple gesture we were reminded we serve the Living God and He is more than capable to complete the work He started. We can encourage you that God is the author of our lives. He will establish our (your) family in His perfect will.

Defend the Orphan Month - November 2013

Please pray throughout this month about what you can do to serve orphans at home and around the world. This video (well worth the 7 minutes) is a great reminder of how as believers in Christ, we are each adopted into God's family. We do not deserve that amazing gift, but because of His loving mercy and unending grace we have been picked up out of our spiritual poverty and rescued by the Father. What a privilege to serve the one true God!

Fingerprints Away!

One step closer...

Fingerprinting and FBI records can take several weeks and can cause delays in the home study. We actually sent this early last week and have already received notice that our fingerprints and criminal history forms were received and are being processed. Given the government shutdown, this is a huge praise!

So proud of our little Kayleigh... http://youtu.be/i09s9_z10w8

Walking in Faith, by God's grace alone

Our family is growing and we are so humbled by God's sweet sovereign leading of our hearts to this place. We are just a month into the process of adopting a child from Ethiopia. It will be a long journey so we appreciate your prayers as we complete the paper work and prepare to welcome home our sweet baby whom God has planned for us even before time began.

"It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy...
I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and
that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." Romans 9: 16-17

Autumn Blessings!

2yrs since we last posted, one might say its about time to re-establish our blog as a lot has transpired over the years. God is moving in and teaching our family so much during this season of transition and change. Most of all, we have become keenly aware of God's grace poured out on us daily and His faithfulness that strengthens and sustains us through all life's circumstances.

Pumpkin Painting Crafts

It was a gray day and we had no where to be so we took
advantage of an old egg crate and the little pumpkins we
had and made a painting day out of it:) Abigail had a blast,
and Kayleigh did too, until she started eating it.

Below are the cute little pumpkin patches they made.
(this was so easy and they had such a great time, if anyone
is looking for a throw it together craft :)
Next, their "hand painted" (literally) pumpkins

Sleeping Booty :)

Okay so that is really Cinderella in the bed with her,
but is this not the cutest thing...this is how we found her
when we went back in to tuck Kayleigh in last night :)
I think is is esp cute they are in the same position and
both showing their tushies :)

Sisters

I love these girls...it's funny how you desire children but
you can't really imagine what they will be like & then
once you have them you can't remember or imagine life
without them. It has been so fun around the house lately
as they can really "play" together...of course with the extra
playing comes extra feuding :)

A new tradition

Pumpkin Rice Crispy Treats: they are so simple to
make & yet we never have before. The girls loved that
they got to help with the entire process & they certainly
loved the tasting along the way and the goody at the end :)

Cutest Pumpkins in the Patch

(Note: these pics are in reverse order why blogspot can't figure it out?)

Kayleigh admiring her choice pumpkin (that's juice on her shorts BTW)

The pumpkin she originally picked out :)
it's bigger than her.
The best I could do to get a picture of the 4 of us.

Hayride fun.

A shrinking head scarecrow and a cow spitting up a girl,
we have submitted it to Ripley's :)

Rollin' round in the corn.

Kayleigh loved the baby pig, Abigail not so much.

Pumpkin patch time....October is here :)

An important reminder to myself

I had kicked my shoes off in the hall & then asked Abigail to undress herself for bath. It wasn't 'til leaving her room after tucking her in that I noticed the picture above. To some it may seem so small a thing they might pass by and never notice but I am grateful the Lord had it catch my eye to remind me I have a little girl (2) watching closely and following what I do.

GO DAWGS!!

This past Sat. we took the girls up for their 1st Game Day experience. It was such a great day. We originally just planned on doing all the pre-game fun & then heading home; however, Kayleigh ended up taking a nap during the Dawg Walk (go figure, cause she is our light sleeper at home??)
And Abigail was having the time of her life, so we figured why not & found someone selling cheap tix for all 4 of us :) The Lord blessed our family day b/c they were cheap & they ended up being in the club level so we got to enjoy the game in the shade :) Josh & I were amazed at how into it both girls were, Abigail has asked every day since to go see the Bulldogs & don't let Kayleigh's size fool you, she can bark as good as the rest of us:)
